And we're relieved to announce that the galaxy is safely in the hands of the Light Side of the Force! Thanks to all who participated!

Recovery Mode

So over the holidays our supply of beer was swept clean and to make sure we had beer to replace it we brewed like mad to try and keep the pace. Unfortunately two of our batches soured and had to be scrapped. So we are now essentially out of beer. We've brewed like mad again but beer takes a couple weeks to become the finished product and we are now playing the waiting game. So this upcoming week we will be closed on January 20th and the 21st to get more beer kegged and prepped so we can be open for the weekend! Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause!

Holiday Hours/Events

Torchlight brewing will be open today 11-6, Tomorrow Dec 24th (Christmas Eve) from 11- 6, CLOSED Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Open again Saturday the 27th from 11-9.

Behind the Scenes... Fresh Hops Beer

These past couple weeks at Beacon have been pretty hectic, but from the chaos sprung an interesting idea: "Is there enough fresh local hops growing around Nelson to make a batch with?". So the boys loaded up with a few 5-gallon buckets and started searching for and picking all the local hops they could find. It didn't take long before they had exactly what they needed.

All the hops collected and measured!

All the hops collected and measured!

And so the process begins, first Josh had to mill the grains through our grain mill.

He multi-tasks like nobody else. :p

Now the Mash Tun is filled with water at 75 degrees Celsius and the milled grains are poured in by Craig while Josh stirs away.

Pour, stir, pour, stir, pour, stir.

Pour, stir, pour, stir, pour, stir.

After an hour in the Mash Tun (with a couple stir sessions) the liquid is extracted through a screen in the bottom and recirculated until the liquid comes through clear of bits of grain.

The lid is there to disperse the incoming liquid so it doesn't plunge into the Mash and stir up the grain again.

After the liquid is done recirculating its transferred to the boil kettle where it'll boil for an hour as the hops are being added.

By the end the kettle was nice and full and it was time to send the beer through our heat exchanger into the fermentation tank!

Castlegar Sunrise 2000 Rotary Club's Craft Beer and Cider Festival

This Saturday, August 23rd, Beacon Brewing's Staff and beers will be headed to the Craft Beer and Cider Festival in Castlegar, BC. This unfortunately means that our tasting lounge and store front will be closing at 3pm on that Saturday INSTEAD of our usual 9pm closing time. Sorry for the inconvenience and we hope to see you at the Festival!!

Tickets for the festival are available for sale at the brewery, and there is a shuttle leaving the Nelson Hockey Arena parking lot at 4pm!

Hot August Long Weekend

It's all set to be a sunny and hot long weekend here in Nelson.  Here at Beacon we have two beers back on tap.  We are still stocked up on our Underdog Pale Ale and the Blonde Ale is back!  Both are available today (Friday) and Saturday until 9 pm in growlers and by the glass.  Come on down to the brewery and stock up for the long weekend ahead.

Hours of Operation

Now that we are caught up with production we will be able to have regular hours of operation as long as the beer holds out.  Don't worry though. Plans are in place to make sure we will have delicious beer ready to drink.

Root for the Underdog

It's almost here.   Our Underdog Pale Ale has just been safely put into it's kegs and needs 24 hours to hang out and get ready to taste.   Our newest beer is a refreshing clean ale with a nice balance between hop and malt flavours.  It's the beer I've been excited to have for Summer.

Almost a week after we sold out of beer we are pleased to announce that we will be opening this Saturday, July 26, at 3pm.  The Underdog will be on tap for glasses and Growler fills.    Following close on its heels will be the return of our Blonde ale.  That should be ready early next week.  More brews to follow.

Bittersweet News

So I have unfortunate news... Beacon Brewing has run out of beer... again. After our opening there were some growing pains and operational issues which limited how much beer we had on hand, and due to the wonderful support of the beer drinking community we have gone through our stock really quickly. This means that we will be closed for a few days while our new stock of beer finishes fermenting. That's the bad news.

There is also GOOD NEWS! After a few days we will reopen and quickly have three flavours going at one time!! We have the launch of our 8-Bit Bitter, the return of the Blonde Ale (now referred to as 'Blondes in Stereo') and the launch of our American Pale Ale; the UNDERDOG ale!!

We apologize for the inconvenience and hope that we can reopen by the weekend to make sure you have delicious beer options ASAP!! Thanks for your patience!

Arrival of the Blonde

We have beer again!  The Blonde Ale, currently un-named, will be ready for growler sales at 3pm tomorrow, Friday July 4th.  This is a lighter beer, perfect for the hot weather we are having right now.  Come grab a growler or enjoy one in the sun on the patio at Finleys.

The Led Sled Porter will be back next week.  We'll update everyone on what day it will be ready and on tap.

Opening Day and Launch Party

So the day is finally coming upon us! The day that we get to sell our delicious craft beer to you guys! Our opening day is set for Tuesday June 24th! We're opening early in the week to make sure we have any unknown kinks in the sales system worked out by the time the weekend hits. So come on down to 511 Front Street on the 24th and grab a growler!

We will also be having a launch party on Saturday June 21st at Finley's Irish Bar and Grill at 7pm! Our beer will be joining the Finley's taps and we'll be there to share a cold pint and answer any questions you have!! So come down and join us!

Race to the Finish!

So we've had our heads down here trying to get over all the hurdles in our way. One particular hurdle cost us two weeks! Alas, thankfully we're still not too far off from our goal. As final inspections and renovations are completed ingredients will arrive and an opening day can be officially decided upon.

In the meantime the Beacon Boys are at the brewery every day (though the times vary) tinkering with all the details. Feel free to drop in and see the whole operation as it takes on its final shape!

In other news you may have heard that we acquired a very old bar... Well it's true! The bar is from The Gates of St Leon, a hotel near the hot springs at St Leon, B.C. on the Arrow Lakes. When the hotel was dismantled the bar was retrieved by a family member of one of the Beacon Boys. Then the bar traded a couple hands and sat in a few basements... for 27 years!! Then the bar made a quick journey into Nelson, and after some minor reassembly and a clear coat finish it sits here at our brewery looking quite fantastic!

So stay tuned on Facebook and Twitter as our opening day will be released soooon!!

Renovation Situation

So the renovations continue as parts for our draft beer system have started arriving. Some red tape is keeping us from moving forward with some steps but we are still moving forward. Slowly. Some pictures are up in our Brew Gallery! Stages of renovation and some parts trickling in our doors are shown there.

Our business cards have also arrived!! It feels really incredible and legitimizing to have them in hand. Once again the dream feels more concrete! If you want to keep up with us check us out on Facebook and Twitter and feel free to call us at our operating phone number!! 1-(250)-352-0094!!!

COLD BEER IS SLOWLY ON IT'S WAY!!!!
